For Montreal Canadiens fans they often have a lot of fond memories of Patrick Roy, but for many the final scene in Patrick's era in Montreal is memorable one for all the wrong reasons.
Roy's original tenure ended in Montreal on December 6th, 1996 but there might just be a different ending to his Montreal Canadiens' story.
Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports shared the following information about Roy's interview and the process behind it.
"This meeting had been planned for a long time since Geoff Molson had called Jacques Tanguay (President of the Remparts de Québec) to ask for his permission to speak to Patrick Roy."
Roy had previously denied any meeting for the role in Montreal, but he also shared why.
"I spoke to him today and he mentioned to me that he wanted to protect the Canadiens in that process. He didn't know if he had the right to say that he was indeed a candidate and finally the Canadians told him that it was okay to mention him."
So is Roy a real candidate for the position? According to Lavoie he definitely is.
«He's one of the very good candidates in the process, but good candidates, there are a lot of them. We can think of Roberto Luongo, Daniel Brière, Mathieu Darche, Kent Hughes, Stéphane Quintal, Marc Denis ...
«I have not heard of a meeting that has gone wrong so far, quite the contrary. The level of respect towards each candidate is extremely high. A lot of people have been met, but we wanted to make sure that the CH side spoke to everyone. There will now be a second round of interviews."
The one thing that we know for sure is that there will be some resolution to this situation in the coming weeks as the Canadiens hope to have a new General Manager in place before the end of the month. The Canadiens want to have their candidate in place and fully functional before the trade deadline.
