Defenseman Gets Ejected In Front Of Over 100 Members Of His Family
The New Jersey Devils clinched a nail-biting win in their intense Friday night showdown against the Buffalo Sabres, finishing 5-4.
Major Incident in the First Period
As the first period was nearing its end with just four minutes left, Nico Hischer, the captain of the New Jersey Devils, send the puck into the defensive territory. Connor Clifton, seizing an opportunity, aimed for a hit, but ended up making contact with Hischer's head, as shown in the video linked below.
"Connor Clifton receives a match penalty for this hit to the head on Nico Hischier."
For his actions, Clifton received a match penalty for targeting the head and an additional five-minute penalty for brawling. After the game, Elliotte Friedman shared his insights on Twitter, hinting that Clifton might soon be in discussions with the NHL Player Safety.
"NHL Player Safety just announced a hearing for Clifton. Hischier did not play third period tonight, "precautionary reasons," according to Lindy Ruff"
This was later affirmed by a tweet from NHL Player Safety, corroborating Friedman's claim.
"Buffalo's Connor Clifton will have a hearing Saturday for an Illegal Check to the Head on New Jersey's Nico Hischier."
100 Family Members Watch Clifton Get Ejected
Clifton had invited over 100 members of his family to be in attendance for last night's game.
Unfortunately, they couldn't see him play very long.
