Last week we saw Columbus Blue Jackets forward Alexander Texier announce that he is going to play overseas next season and remain close to home due to his mental health battle.
We have now just learned that yesterday another Blue Jacket's prospect has signed a massive 7 year deal to play with the HC Lugano in Switzerland. Calvin Thurkauf is 25 years old and this contract will take him until the age of 32, which will most likely be the end of his NHL career.
Jackets forward prospect Calvin Thurkauf has signed a seven-year contract with HC Lugano in Switzerland, essentially shutting the door on any chance of him playing in the NHL again.
Thurkauf, 25, has already spent the past two seasons in Switzerland, putting up a combined 19 goals and 40 points through 72 games played.
He was drafted 185th by Columbus in 2016.
Will Thurkauf make a comeback in his 30's?
