For awhile now since we saw the first highlights of Connor Bedard when he was just 15 years old, he has been the projected 1st overall pick. At the young age of 17, we have seen him now win Gold with Team Canada, and also score at a near goal-per-game pace in the the WHL, that's right, not point-per-game, GOAL-per-game.
The 2023 NHL entry draft is less than a year away, and Bedard is projected to be a franchise player who will drastically help any team who is currently looking to rebuild their roster.
While we have seen players in their draft year rise and fall, like how we saw Shane Wright go from the projected first overall pick for 2 years, drop to 4th on draft night, the only player projected to compete with Bedard right now is Russian born Matvei Michkov. Unfortuantely though for Michkov, he is start his draft year with an injury and also comes with a bit of baggage as he is signed with his KHL team for a few more seasons, so an NHL team would not be able to have him on their roster for a few years.
A popular sports betting website FanDuel recently shared on social media, the odds of which team has the best chance of getting the 1st overall pick and having the honour of most likely drafting Connor Bedard, and two teams have tied.
The Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks both have a +300 chance at winning the 1st overall pick, while the Montreal Canadiens have a +500, and 4th comes the Buffalo Sabres with a +1000 odds of winning.
