The Bruins have also been one of the hottest teams in the league since January 1st, going 12-4-1 in that time. It's pretty clear at this point the Bruins will be buyers in some capacity at the trade deadline, especially with Patrice Bergeron being an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. With an aging core this could be the Bruins last hoorah with the likes of Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Tuukka Rask as impact players.
Now while making his weekly appearance on The Greg Hill Show, Bruins Legend Mike Milbury shared that he still doesn't believe the Bruins are Cup contenders. According to Milbury he believes tearing things down and rebuilding should still be on the table for the Bruins, regardless of where they currently sit in the standings.
"I would say that by now, you should have a pretty realistic view of your team," said Milbury "It's well into the season, even if in the pandemic era, it's kind of difficult, disjointed. But they should know pretty much what they want to hang onto. Should they get rid of some of their key assets? Is it time to rebuild?"
"I think that conversation has to still be going on in the Bruins' office, but I do think they believe they can summon up enough energy and enough resources, maybe with an additional defenseman or two, to make it past the first round of the playoffs. But if they're thinking they're gonna go to a Stanley Cup Final, then they're smoking dope."
Earlier this season Milbury also suggested the Bruins look to move on from both Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron in an attempt to expedite the rebuilding process in Boston.
