BREAKING: Penguins Forward Leaves Midseason To Sign In Europe
Johnsson leaves the NHL midseason and signs in Europe
After being signed to a one-year deal by the Penguins in the offseason, Johnsson has left the NHL and signed a three-year deal with Skelleftea AIK in the SHL. He was set to earn $800,000 in the NHL this year but hadn't played any games yet due to injury.
Johnsson has had a successful NHL career
Johnsson has played 259 NHL games over the last six seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, and San Jose Sharks. In that span he has scored 48 goals and 116 points. His best season was in 2018-19 when he scored 20 goals and 43 points for the Maple Leafs as one of their best secondary scorers.
Johnsson was set to play for the Wilkes-Barrie Scranton Penguins in the AHL this year but decided to play at home in Sweden instead.
