Following last night's NHL action, the Department of Player Safety may have a hectic Friday. There are rumors that Brad Marchand may face discipline for his slewfoot on Oliver Bjorkstand. On the other hand, it has been confirmed that Erik Cernak, a defender for the Tampa Bay Lightning, will be subjected to supplementary punishment for an incident that occurred in the game's last two minutes.
Cernak had been readying himself for a legal hit on Okposo as he approached the Lightning's zone, but his elbow slightly lifted and made contact with Okposo's face.
Given Okposo's history of head injuries, this move is a concern. Okposo exited the game following the hit and did not return.
NHL Player Safety announced Cernak's hearing this morning, indicating that he will miss at least one game.
