After losing to the Florida Panthers in 6 games in the opening round of the NHL playoffs Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has indicated he was playing injured in the first round as the result of a late season injury.

Citing the pain playing through his injury caused him Ovechkin credited magic pills, likely painkillers, with enabling him to play on:

"If it hurts, you have some injections to do and you have some magic pills.»

Scoring 6 points in 6 games in the playoffs, and 90 points in 77 games in the regular season, you'd have to wonder how well Ovechkin could play without injury, especially at 36 years of age.

Highest active player on the NHL career goal scoring list, Ovechkin is 3rd all time (780) behind Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).

This past season Ovechkin also tied Wayne Gretzy and Mike Bossy with 9x 50-goal seasons.
