Winnipeg Jets superstar Nikolaj Ehlers officially on the trade block
After a stellar start to his career with the Jets, Nik Ehlers is reportedly on the trade block, with the Jets looking to move on after a disappointing playoff run.
The Winnipeg Jets entered the playoffs incredibly confident of their chances against the Colorado Avalanche, and even with Connor Hellebuyck in net, they were blown away in five games. Now, they will look to be busy this summer as they want to extend their playoff window with an elite goaltender, and now we know that means moving one of their veterans.
According to The Athletic's Murat Ates, Nikolaj Ehlers will officially be on the block this summer as the Jets look to get younger and more talented for a potential Stanley Cup run in the future;
"It's also true that Ehlers' playoff resume will haunt him until he overcomes it. Nothing is promised on that front, and it's looking less and less likely that he'll get the opportunity to improve upon that resume in Winnipeg. The Jets are indeed in the process of a head coaching search one wonders if new leadership could change what seems like an inevitable exit but I believe that Ehlers will be shopped ahead of the NHL Draft." Ates said.
He added, "Ehlers has been shopped before, but never so seriously that talks reached the boiling point. Things could be different this summer."
Despite what he's done for the franchise, the Jets have shopped him before and will now look to do the same this summer, and for teams looking to compete, he could be an amazing pickup.
We will wait and see how the market develops for Ehlers, but as of right now, it looks like the Jets will be busy this summer, and moving a veteran star will be the top of their priority list.
