Kyle Connor has weighed in on the blockbuster that sent Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils, and his words say plenty about where the Winnipeg Jets locker room stands today.
Yeah, super excited to get the guys we got into the fold who want to be here and want to be a part of Winnipeg Jets hockey
Why Connor's Wording Matters
In the comment shared, Connor did not mention Hellebuyck by name, and he did not need to.
By stressing that the new arrivals want to be in Winnipeg, the star winger drew a quiet contrast with a goaltender who publicly requested a trade and was suspended for missing training camp.
What Winnipeg Got in Return
The Jets landed forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goaltender Nico Daws, prospect Alexander Command, a 2029 second-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Mercer and Bjugstad add depth up front, while Stuart Skinner remains the No. 1 option in goal as Winnipeg sits at 5-4-1 through ten games.
For a franchise that spent months in limbo, Connor's tone suggests relief. The saga ended on the same day Hellebuyck's suspension was set to expire, and the Jets can now build around players who have bought in.
Connor's support for the new additions also matters inside the room. A locker room that believes in its roster can settle quickly, and Winnipeg needs that stability after weeks of noise. If Mercer, Bjugstad and Daws fit in fast, the Jets can finally turn the page and focus on hockey.
Hellebuyck, 33, owns three Vezina Trophies and a Hart Trophy. He is signed through 2030-31 at an $8.5 million cap hit, and the Devils now carry the weight of Stanley Cup expectations with him in net.
Hellebuyck returns to Winnipeg on Nov. 10 when the Devils visit, and Connor will get his first chance to shoot on his former teammate. That night will be emotional for fans and players alike, and Connor's comment already hints at the message the Jets dressing room wants to send.
