Connor Hellebuyck trade standoff takes a turn as insider reveals Jets' new stance

Connor Hellebuyck's trade request is heading into a new phase, and it does not sound like the Winnipeg Jets are in any rush to make it easy for him.

The Jets goaltender made his wish to be moved public back in August, but with training camp closing in, there is still no resolution in sight, and insiders are starting to believe Winnipeg has no plans to blink first.

Seravalli believes the Jets are prepared to lean on Hellebuyck's contract as leverage, essentially forcing the two sides into a standoff that could stretch well into the season.

Hellebuyck signed an eight year extension worth $8.5 million per season back in 2023, and he is only entering year four of that deal.

Just as important, he carries a full no movement clause that does not expire until next July, meaning the Jets are under zero obligation to move quickly even with their goaltender publicly unhappy.

That level of contractual control gives Winnipeg options most teams dealing with a disgruntled star simply do not have.

They can wait out the market, let value shift, and only pull the trigger on a deal that genuinely fits their timeline.

Names like the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers have all been connected to Hellebuyck at various points since the draft, but nothing has materialized into real traction.

With camp approaching fast, the pressure is mounting on both sides to find a resolution, or brace for an awkward start to the season in Winnipeg.
