The Connor Hellebuyck trade saga has a new destination to consider. Frank Seravalli passed along a notable update via Sportsnet, saying that the Kings have been told Connor Hellebuyck would accept a trade there.

That detail carries real weight. Hellebuyck holds trade protection, which means he controls which teams can acquire him.
Any club hoping to land the star goaltender must first find out whether he would sign off on the move, and Los Angeles now appears to have that answer in hand.

Why Los Angeles Makes Sense

The Kings have built a reputation as a tough, defense-first team that has been a regular in the playoff picture. Adding a former Hart Trophy winner between the pipes would give them an elite netminder at the position that so often decides tight postseason series.
Hellebuyck has carried a heavy workload in Winnipeg for years, and the idea of him backstopping a deep, structured Kings group is an intriguing one. The Southern California lifestyle certainly does not hurt either.
Winnipeg has made its priorities clear throughout this process. The Jets want immediate help coming back, and they have shown a strong preference for a goaltender in any deal.
Los Angeles would need to assemble a package that checks those boxes while still keeping its own roster competitive, which is no small task.
The Jets still must decide whether any offer is strong enough to justify moving a franchise cornerstone.

What Happens Next

With his suspension now in the rearview mirror, the market is free to move. Buffalo, Utah, Anaheim and Carolina have all been tied to Hellebuyck in recent reports, so the Kings are far from alone in this race.
Still, every team that proves Hellebuyck is willing to go there strengthens Winnipeg's hand, because competition tends to raise the price.
Hellebuyck's openness to LA also adds another layer to a situation that has lingered for months.
Whether it leads to a deal or simply serves as leverage remains to be seen, but the Kings have now moved from rumor to real possibility.
