A Connor Hellebuyck trade seems more likely after the Jets' latest actions

The contract he signed in 2023 explains why that means less than it looks.

The Winnipeg Jets released their 2026-27 schedule on July 16, and their three-time Vezina Trophy winner did not appear in the promotional material.

Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin flagged the omission while ranking the offseason's unresolved storylines, and it spread from there.

One line in his contract reframes the entire conversation.

Hellebuyck carries a full no-movement clause through the 2026-27 season.

Pro Hockey Rumors and ESPN both confirm the structure: full no-movement protection through next season, converting to a 10-team trade list in the summer of 2027.

That means Kevin Cheveldayoff cannot move Hellebuyck this year without the goaltender picking the destination himself.

A marketing department omitting a player it has no power to trade is not a signal. It is a team declining to sell season tickets on a goaltender who said in April that complacency would not move the franchise forward.

Stuart Skinner's agent is Ray Petkau, who also represents Hellebuyck, per the Jets' own website.

So the goaltender's own representation negotiated his potential replacement into Winnipeg on July 1.

Now look at the term on that contract. Two years, $3.75 million annually, expiring after 2027-28.

That deal covers the exact window in which Hellebuyck's protection weakens from absolute to a 10-team list.

Winnipeg does not gain leverage in July 2026. It gains leverage in July 2027, and Skinner is signed through it.

The schedule graphic is a summer talking point.

The clause calendar is the actual plan, and it says the Jets are prepared to wait a full season for the price to come to them.
