The Vegas Golden Knights landed Mitch Marner this summer, but that may not help after Gary Bettman gave the organization a major disadvantage for 2025/26.

The 2025 NHL off-season has been a busy one for the Vegas Golden Knights, with the team swinging a deal to land Mitch Marner, the former Maple Leafs star coming off a 100-point campaign in Toronto.
The pairing of Marner and Jack Eichel has made in Vegas excited about their potential, and with the need to matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, this is the type of firepower that the Golden Knights needed to chase their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.

Gary Bettman puts the Golden Knights at a major disadvantage

Unfortunately for Vegas, those hopes come with a major roadblock, as it has been revealed the major disadvantage that the team have been given by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and the scheduling team.
Not only do Vegas travel the most distance this season at over 46,000 miles, but they'll also cross 52 time zones, making their chances even tougher in a very competitive Western Conference this season.
However, they were strong again in 2024/25 en route to winning the Pacific Division, and with the addition of Marner, many believe this is the most talented forward group the organization has ever had, with great depth and star power all over and the potential to add more pieces at the trade deadline.
Ultimately though, there's always roadblocks in the way of competing for a Stanley Cup, and with a very talented group, the belief is that Vegas can overcome all of this travel and make their way to the Stanley Cup Finals once more.
