One rival team thinks Elias Pettersson still has a big season left in him, even after a rough year in Vancouver.

Elias Pettersson's name has been floating around the NHL rumor mill for months now, and the latest update comes from insider Rick Dhaliwal, who says at least one team believes the former 100 point scorer can return to elite production if he lands in the right spot.

What one team is saying about Pettersson

According to Dhaliwal, a team involved in trade conversations with the Canucks told him they think they can get Pettersson back up to the 80, 82, even 83 point range.
That would be a massive jump from where he finished this past season, when he posted just 51 points in 74 games with 15 goals and 36 assists.
He also finished a brutal minus-30, and the slide got worse down the stretch, with only six points and zero goals over his final 10 games.
Here's the post that got things going.

Why the contract makes this complicated

The belief in a bounce back is one thing, but the money attached to Pettersson is another.
He carries a cap hit of $11.6 million, the eighth highest number in the entire league.
That kind of contract doesn't move easily, especially when it's attached to a team like Vancouver, which finished dead last in the NHL at 25-49-8 with a minus-100 goal differential.
Selling a player at that price on a last place team is never simple, buyers will still call, but they're going to want a discount attached.
Whether any team is actually willing to bet on a full rebound remains the real question this summer.
