Jake DeBrusk wants out of the Canucks rebuild - 3 teams emerge as fits

Jake DeBrusk is heading into a new season still looking for a way out of Vancouver, and he has made no secret about it.

He said late last season a rebuild is not where he wants to spend the prime of his career, and that stance has not softened.

His trade value took a hit last year though.

DeBrusk managed just three goals on 121 shots at even strength, a rough rate for a guy who has had a nose for net front goals throughout his career.

That number is expected to bounce back, helping drum up interest as the season nears.

Edmonton feels like the obvious storyline given DeBrusk was born there and his dad Louie spent six seasons wearing the jersey before becoming a color commentator on Oilers broadcasts.

He could slot in as a net front option next to Leon Draisaitl, giving Edmonton another scoring punch in the middle six.

Ottawa has also been floated as a landing spot.

The Senators lost their net front presence on the top power play unit after trading Brady Tkachuk, a role DeBrusk thrived in, potting a career high 19 power play goals last season.

Seattle rounds out the list.

The Kraken have chased bigger names before, missing out on both Artemi Panarin and Jason Robertson in free agency, so a more attainable target could make sense.

Seattle was reportedly a finalist for DeBrusk two summers ago before he signed in Vancouver.

DeBrusk still has five years left on his deal at a $5.5 million cap hit, team friendly if he keeps producing around 20 goals a year.

He holds a full no move clause, though it shifts to a 15 team no trade list next season, opening the door for more teams.
