Jake DeBrusk calls out teams that passed on him in free agency
Jake DeBrusk was a top targets available in free agency this year, and after inking a rich deal with Vancouver, he's called out the teams that didn't land him.
After plenty of chatter around the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers among other teams, veteran forward Jake DeBrusk ultimately inked a deal with the Vancouver Canucks on day one of free agency, getting $5.5 million AAV over a seven-year deal. The deal was a rich one for Vancouver, but give them another high scoring winger to go with their high-octane forward group, and now, the Alberta native has called out those teams that didn't end him landing him.
"I wanted to go to a team that could win, and I'm very lucky that they wanted me." DeBrusk said.
After winning the Pacific Division in 2023/24, the Vancouver Canucks are clearly trending upwards, and while DeBrusk didn't land in his home province, he returns to Western Canada as he chases a Stanley Cup. It's not clear which other teams came close to landing DeBrusk, but ultimately he chose the team that lost in seven games of the second round, believing that with good health and his addition to the team, they can go a few steps further next season.
