The Vancouver Canucks were active at the trade deadline, and now the details of a surprise but ultimately failed trade with the Ottawa Senators has emerged.

The NHL trade deadline was once again chaotic, with several players being moved in shocking deals, and after Mikko Rantanen was traded twice, we have now learned that another player was almost dealt for a second time.
That would be Filip Chytil, who was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks in the deal that sent J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers, with many in the organization clearly not seeing him as a long-term fit in Vancouver.
Now, Darren Dreger has revealed how close the Canucks were to dealing him and a draft pick to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for talented forward Josh Norris, but for whatever reason, the deal simply never managed to get over the final hurdle.
As we know, the Senators were eager to trade the injury prone Norris, as he was eventually part of the package that saw them secure Dylan Cozens from the Buffalo Sabres, but this other deal could have completely changed the dynamic for many teams in the NHL.
While both Chytil and Norris have great potential, they're both very injury prone, with Chytil missing significant time in Vancouver due to his history of concussion issues, while Norris would end up playing just three games for the Sabres following the deadline move.
This is now one of several deals we've heard were almost completed at the deadline, and with the Canucks future looky shaky at best due to their lack of rising stars on the back of many key players leaving in recent times, don't be surprised if they explore a deal for Chytil this off-season or at the 2026 NHL trade deadline.
