Stanley Cup champion Nate Schmidt has elected to sign with a new team in free agency this summer, joining the Utah Mammoth after winning it all with the Florida Panthers.

The Utah Mammoth have been one of the busier teams so far today, making multiple significant additions to their team.
Just moments ago, the team announced that they had signed former Winnipeg Jets forward Brandon Tanev to a three-year deal.
Tanev is a reliable veteran who can play well in a bottom-six role and bring a lot of defensive prowess to the team.
Perhaps the organization is planning on putting more emphasis on team defense next season, as now they have made a major addition to their blueline in the form of Nate Schmidt.
Schmidt signed a very similar deal to Tanev, with it being three years long and coming with a reasonable 3.5 million dollar cap hit.
Schmidt is a vert reliable defensive defenseman who brings a little bit of scoring with his game too.
Last season he put up a respectable 5 goals and 19 points playing a third-pair role for the Panthers, but he especially shined in the playoffs where he recorded three goals and 12 points in 23 games.
His advanced analytics paint a similar story, showing that he should be capable of taking on a bigger role in Utah if he needs to.
Combined, Tanev and Schmidt might not be enough to get the Mammoth into the playoffs, but the team still has a little more than 11.5 million dollars in cap room to work with.
One player the club has been linked to is Nikolaj Ehlers, but at this rate they very well may be priced out on him as he is the top forward remaining on the market.
Regardless, be sure to stay tuned to see what other moves Utah makes in the coming hours and days.
