Pagnotta's report came as part of a larger roundup of news around the league he published to the Fourth Period today. Apparently, Liljegren's name has been floated as an option on the trade market this summer.
This news may come as a surprise to many Leafs fans as the team's blueline was a significant problem this season. That being said, Liljegren wasn't really the main reason for that. The 24-year-old seemed to be coming into his own this season, matching his career-best with 23 points despite the fact that he got into just 55 games. His second half of the season was particularly strong, as he put up 14 points in his final 18 regular season games.
That being said, many Leafs fans seem to be prepared for the reality that he may get moved this offseason. As a result, some fans have begun to create wish lists online for what they would like to see in return. One fan suggested Flyers forward Morgan Frost.
In reality though, the Leafs need much more help on the backend than they do up front. However, the team's scoring fell apart in the playoffs so really they can't go wrong as long as they get an equally skilled NHL player in return.
