NHL Insider Confirms John Tavares's Health Status Ahead Of Game Versus Arizona Coyotes
The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to faceoff against the Arizona Coyotes tonight. It is a big game for the Leafs as they look to bounce back after a through beating by the Vegas Golden Knights. Importantly, Leafs captain John Tavares appears to be a full participant in the game.
Dreger Confirms Tavares Not Dealing With Injury
During the 6-2 loss at the hand of the Golden Knights, many fans noticed that Tavares appeared to be laboring on the bench. While Most players are dealing with some kind of minor bumps and bruises at this point in the season, it sparked concern that he may have a proper injury. However, Darren Dreger confirmed this morning that the Leafs captain is just fine.
We all saw Tavares in discomfort on the bench on Tuesday which has fuelled some speculation there is an injury situation. However, after checking with the team and the agent I'm told there is nothing health wise going on with JT.
Tavares Continues To Struggle In Loss To Golden Knights
That being said, perhaps it would not be the worst thing for the Leafs if Tavares did get a night off. The 33-year-old has struggled recently, leading to him being demoted to a third-line role.
At times, the new position seemed to work for the captain, but in the team's most recent games, his struggles have continued. He was a -2 last night in the 6-2 loss and recorded just a single shot on goal in a little under 15 minutes of ice time. His frustration has been very evident.
Tavares is not getting any younger, leading many to believe that this may be the player he is now. Age regression may finally be kicking in and it could not come at a worse time for the Leafs as we enter the stretch run of the season. Be sure to stay tuned to see if the Leafs captain can tun it around.
