William Villeneuve was a draft pick of the Maple Leafs back in 2020, but now he's going viral after fans recognized an uncanny resemblance to Mitch Marner.

Back in 2020, the Toronto Maple Leafs landed talented defenseman William Villeneuve of the QMJHL in the fourth round, and on Tuesday, they confirmed that he has re-signed with the organization.
In the announcement post from the Maple Leafs on social media, fans that may not have been too familiar with the Quebec native noticed something eerily similar to a recently departed Maple Leafs superstar.

Newly Signed Maple Leaf William Villeneuve is Mitch Marner's Doppelgänger

With the photo used by the Leafs team on X, there was an uncanny resemblance to Mitch Marner, which several fans were quick to point out as the two look almost identical in that particular photo.
This led to many jokes and comments from fans on many posts about Villeneuve, but after spending the past four years in the organization with the Toronto Marlies, it's very surprising that this hasn't come out before, especially if the two were on the ice together at training camp.
The 23-year old has been fairly solid for Toronto in the AHL with the Marlies in recent years, posting 90 points in the past three seasons in 163 games played, and now that there's attention on him, there's a chance that he may see significant pre-season action and push for a spot on the Maple Leafs roster.
Regardless of his future however, it is hilarious to see just how similar he truly does look to Marner in that photo, with many fans joking about how they've already replaced the former superstar.
