Maple Leafs Unexpectedly Involved in Contract Talks for Basketball Superstar Kawhi Leonard

Currently, Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers are under investigation over a sponsorship that saw the team potentially circumvent the salary cap by paying him an extra $28 million to do nothing via a sponsor.

It's potentially one of the biggest scandals in NBA history, with the league investigating the situation, with nothing reported back to the fans as of right now.

This brought up past contract negotiations by Leonard as well, including his demands to stay in Toronto after he helped lead the Raptors to the 2019 NBA Championship in a contract year.

Shockingly, this list of demands included a 10% stake in the Toronto Maple Leafs and other MLSE owned organizations, and unsurprisingly, the NBA superstar was swiftly turned down.

While NHL teams aren't quite as valuable as NBA teams on the average, this was a step too far for Raptors ownership, as they or MLSE did not even consider this ridiculous part of Leonard's demands.

On top of that, he wanted over $10 million in extra salary via sponsorships to 'do nothing', so it comes as no shock that he was let go in free agency despite a historic campaign in 2019.

Now, he's under investigation after Owner Steve Ballmer funnelled $50 million into aspiration, with $28 million of that going towards Leonard for no additional work, and now that the company has gone under, investigations into this shady practice continue on.
