Maple Leafs make last-minute goalie call-up, Joseph Woll placed on injured reserve
The Maple Leafs have announced that goaltender Joseph Woll has been put onto injured reserve, and they've called up Dennis Hildeby from the AHL.
The Toronto Maple Leafs already don't have goaltender Anthony Stolarz available to them, and now they've lost goaltender Joseph Woll to an injury of his own.
Woll was hurt during his team's 5-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes after he made a save and was wincing afterward; he was replaced in the third period by Dennis Hildeby, who had been called up from the American Hockey League affiliate Toronto Marlies.
Now, Woll has been put on Injured Reserve by the Maple Leafs, and they have had to make another call up from the AHL. Artur Akhtyamov is now up with the Maple Leafs and will be backing up Hildeby.
Recently, head coach Craig Berube said that even though Woll isn't 'better than expected', he's still expected to miss at least a week and that he shouldn't miss too much time.
He'll be a week, hopefully. That's right now. That's where he is at. Better than expected? No, not better. Better would be he's ready to go tonight. But that's not the case. We're not expecting it to be too long. - Craig Berube
Before being called up, Akhtyamov was 7-5 with a .896 SV% with the Marlies.
The Maple Leafs Already Don't Have Anthony Stolarz Available To Them
Woll's injury is the latest setback for the Maple Leafs in goal after losing starter Anthony Stolarz.
Stolarz has not played in nearly a month, as he was hurt on December 11 in a game against the divisional foe Boston Bruins.
Per the latest report from Berube, Stolarz isn't any closer to returning, as he's not even been on the ice since the injury.
