Brandon Scanlin has spent the last four seasons in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack, and now in a surprise move, the Rangers have waived him.

The New York Rangers are off to a very inconsistent start in 2025/26, and with the team looking to bounce back from a rough campaign a season ago, they need to steady the ship moving forward.
That likely means the team will be looking to shake things up, and while we're yet to see a blockbuster trade, General Manager Chris Drury has made one surprise move on Saturday.

26-year old blue liner placed on waivers

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers have placed talented 26-year old defenseman Brandon Scanlin on waivers, with the formerly un-drafted blue liner not appearing in a game for the team this season.
The Ontario native has spent the last four seasons with the Rangers AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, tallying 20 goals and 45 points over that time, but with his size (6-foot-4, 222 pounds), he's not in the lineup in the AHL to be a scorer.
Scanlin suffered an injury in training camp, and has been rehabbing down in Hartford thus far, and with the team looking to re-assign him to their AHL affiliate, he will be a major boost for their playoff hopes down there.
As for the chances he gets picked up, it's unlikely as plenty of teams believe they can find this type of production with more experience in the NHL elsewhere, but given how intriguing his size and talents are, there's always a chance that a team looks to take a shot on him.
