Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll Steps Away From Hockey Indefinitely for Family Reasons

The Toronto Maple Leafs have come into every season in recent years with high expectations, and it appears 2025/26 is no different, with the team optimistic they can make a deep run.

Once again, their goaltending will play a huge role in that, as the team have the combination of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll to give them one of the best tandems in the entire NHL.

Unfortunately, Joseph Woll may now miss the start of the 2025/26 campaign, as Insider Frank Seravalli has revealed that he's taking a leave of absence to deal with a personal family matter.

It's unclear how long Woll will be out, as the team are going to respect his privacy, but with the regular season just a matter of weeks away, they may be hoping that he can rejoin the team ahead of their opener against the Montreal Canadiens.

Earlier this week, Woll missed time from practice due to illness, and now, this family matter will seemingly contribute to him missing some time as well, meaning he's had a very interrupted pre-season.

Ultimately, family comes before anything, so it's great to see Brad Treliving, Craig Berube and the front office supporting Woll through this, and when he does get back, he'll look to hit the ground running ahead of a massive season in Toronto as he looks to get back to previous form and help this team finally go on the deep run their fans have been waiting for.
