Maple Leafs forward trending toward missing the start of season as recovery is now uncertain

The 31 year old winger has been dealing with the fallout from a procedure he underwent back in the spring, and while the Maple Leafs have stayed fairly tight lipped on the specifics, the picture forming heading into camp is not exactly reassuring.

Domi played through the issue for most of last season, gutting out 80 appearances and finishing with 12 goals and 36 points, but the surgery that was supposed to fix things instead led to complications that have kept him sidelined ever since.

According to a recent update, Domi is expected to miss training camp entirely, with his availability for opening night still very much in question.

There is a lot of uncertainty attached to the situation, and Toronto hasn't put a firm date on when he'll be cleared to return to game action.

The plan for now is to keep re-evaluating his progress with the medical staff rather than rush him back before he's fully ready.

Domi is halfway through the four year, $15 million contract he signed with the Maple Leafs in the summer of 2024, and this kind of setback couldn't come at a worse time for a player trying to rebuild his value after a rough offensive season that saw his overall impact take a noticeable step back.

If Domi isn't ready for opening night, Craig Berube will need to figure out his bottom six mix on the fly, and that's a puzzle the Maple Leafs were hoping to avoid this early in the year.

Toronto already has plenty of moving pieces up front heading into the season, and fans will be watching closely for any update once camp officially opens.
