Craig Berube provides no clarity when asked about Easton Cowan's third straight healthy scratch
Easton Cowan is a promising part of the Maple Leafs future, but Craig Berube's latest comments have provided little clarity on his immediate path forward.
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost the major production of Mitch Marner over the summer, and this season, they were hoping to replace that incredible play with an internal move.
Some had hoped that would come through top prospect Easton Cowan, who put together an incredible four seasons with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League.
Craig Berube provides vague update on Cowan's status
He's now found his way into the National Hockey League, appearing in just 26 games this season, posting 4 goals and 11 points in that time, but during that span, he's been a healthy scratch many times.
That includes the last three games, where Head Coach Craig Berube has made him a healthy scratch, and now, he's provided an update on his status, although it was vague enough not to guarantee an immediate return to the lineup.
Conversations with him we won last game. Just be patient. We definitely do not want him sitting out too long. That's not good for his growth. I think he helps us. I think he's a good player, and he's only going to get better. - Craig Berube
On paper, Cowan is one of the most exciting young players on the team, but simply put, he's not been given a consistent role thus far throughout his rookie season, but given his age and his talent, there's no doubting that for the present and the future in Toronto, he should be given a much greater role moving forward.
