Blake Smith & Djibril Toure deliver an epic heavyweight fight during prospect challenge

Going into this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs organization is looking to show the rest of the league that it is difficult to play against. This means bringing in players who are not afraid to throw their body around and scrap when the time calls for it.

This goes beyond just the Leafs' 23-man roster. The Marlies need to display this kind of toughness, and so do the youngsters who are going back to junior after the prospect challenge.

Tonight, Blake Smith was the one to set the tone during the Leafs' very first prospect showcase game against the Ottawa Senators. In fact, he went up against 6-foot-7 defenseman Djibril Toure.

Toure is a big player, but so is Blake Smith. At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Smith has shown that he can be a physical player who can also play under pressure. After all, he did have minutes in the AHL postseason as the Marlies won the Calder Cup.

In the fight below, you can see that Toure was the ultimate winner, although Smith did come through with a pretty solid scrap in his own right. The punches were being thrown left and right, and it made for a truly incredible spectacle.

At the end of the day, these players are fighting for spots in both the AHL and the NHL. This puts them all in a unique position, where these kinds of fights become the norm.

Whether or not Toure and Smith have any shot of making an NHL roster truly remains to be seen. Whatever the case may be, the fans are thoroughly entertained.
