Steven Stamkos linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a new report
The situation between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Steven Stamkos seems to keep deteriorating. Now things are to the point that several new homes have been suggested including Toronto.
Steven Stamkos has been surrounded by rumors of his impending free agency all season long. Now that the Tampa Bay Lightning have been eliminated from the playoffs those rumors and reports have begun to pick up. Things seem to be heading toward Steven Stamkos becoming a free agent and leaving the Tampa Bay Lightning.
There remains a level of uncertainty around Steven Stamkos' future in Tampa Bay, according to The Athletic.
Stamkos will he an unrestricted free agent following this season, but contract talks stalled last summer.
Things have now progressed to the point where there are reports about his new potential homes. Several teams are allegedly interested including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, and Detroit Red Wings.
Detroit, Toronto, Montreal & Nashville could be spots for Stamkos if he hits free agency.
While all of these teams have a need for Steven Stamkos there is always the possibility that the Tampa Bay Lightning end up re-signing him. If not it will be interesting to see if a bidding war happens between teams. A bidding war could lead to a team taking on far too large of a contract to land the veteran forward.
