Brandon Hagel could face a Player Safety look after his third period elbow on Flyers forward Porter Martone in Tampa Bay's 4-1 win Monday night.

Brandon Hagel might be hearing from the NHL Department of Player Safety.
The Tampa Bay Lightning winger was sent off for elbowing Porter Martone in the third period of Monday night's 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, and the hit has fans questioning whether two minutes was enough.
The penalty came at 13:33 of the third.
Hagel's elbow caught Martone high, and the 19-year-old was pulled from the game by the concussion spotter for testing.
He did return and finish the night, which is the best news in all of this.

Why a suspension is possible

The NHL does not need a major penalty to take a closer look.
Supplemental discipline can still follow when the league feels a minor undersold what happened, especially when contact lands on the head.
Nothing has been announced as of Tuesday, and no hearing has been reported yet.
Hagel's history matters too. He served a one-game ban in April 2025 for interference on Aleksander Barkov, the first suspension of his career.
Days later he was on the other end of a head hit, when Aaron Ekblad drew a two-game suspension for an elbow on him.

Flyers still searching for a win

Philadelphia fell to 0-2-2 and is still hunting for its first victory.
Martone was one of the few bright spots, drawing penalties and getting under the Lightning's skin all night.
Hagel then added an empty-net goal with seven seconds left to seal it.
Now the focus shifts to the league office.
If Player Safety sees a player with a record going high on an opponent, a hearing is on the table.
If not, Hagel plays on and the Flyers carry the frustration through the rest of their three-game road trip.
