Simon Edvinsson reportedly didn't see a first contract offer from the Red Wings until September 17, and that timeline says a lot about his frustration.

Simon Edvinsson has been waiting all summer for Detroit to put real numbers in front of him, and a new detail from Chris Johnston shows just how long that wait was.
Johnston said on The Chris Johnston Show that it's his understanding the first contract offer didn't come until September 17.
That's the same day training camp opened.
"It's my understanding the first contract offer to Simon Edvinsson didn't come till September 17th."

Think about the timeline.
Edvinsson's entry-level deal expired after last season, which made him a restricted free agent.
Steve Yzerman stepped down as general manager in July, and Detroit went weeks without a replacement.
Shawn Horcoff was only named interim GM on September 15, with the authority to negotiate.

Why this feels like a slap in the face

Edvinsson is 23, went sixth overall in 2021 and has 19 goals and 41 assists in 175 games.
He's Detroit's second best defenseman behind Moritz Seider.
Waiting months for a number is going to sting for a player like that.
His side reportedly wants a max seven-year deal worth between $9 million and $11 million per season, according to David Pagnotta. Johnston and Elliotte Friedman have both said Detroit has mostly pitched a shorter bridge contract.
Friedman also reported that Edvinsson's frustration has grown to the point where he prefers a trade.
Put the late first offer next to the bridge pitch and it's easy to see why this feels like disrespect to him.

Where things stand now

Edvinsson did report to camp unsigned and skated with his teammates.
He has since gone back to Sweden to train with Frolunda, and the Red Wings opened the season Friday against the Rangers without him.
Pierre LeBrun reported that other teams have called about his availability, but the organization says re-signing him is the only focus.
