Shane Wright gets demoted again despite strong scoring streak
Shane Wright was on one of the best scoring stretches of his career recently but that was not enough for the Seattle Kraken to be convinced he needs to stay in the NHL by sending him down to the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the AHL.
Since falling to 4th overall in the 2022 NHL draft, Shane Wright has had quite the tumultuous adjustment. Last year he split time between the NHL, AHL, and OHL and had expectations to make the NHL this year but fell short, being an AHL mainstay for most of the season.
Recently he was called up to the NHL and had one of the strongest stretches of his career scoring four goals and five points in a five-game stint in the NHL.
After this strong stretch, he was assigned to the AHL which puzzled fans.
However, the true reason behind this move is in the Kraken's best interest long term.
Had Shane Wright played a ninth game, this would've burned a year on his entry-level contract which Francis has been very vocal about not wasting.
Good move especially considering Coachella's playoffs begin in a week.
Now Wright will help the Firebirds on their quest for the Calder Cup and will look to make the full-time jump to the NHL next year.
