The Seattle Kraken have once again failed to reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and on Friday, they've officially placed two players on waivers.
After building up a solid roster, the Seattle Kraken have plateaued in a big way in recent times, as they've now failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a second straight year.
This comes on the back of a major lack of star power leading the way, with some big decisions to make in the off-season if they want to get things back on track under first-year Head Coach Dan Bylsma.
On Friday, they made two intriguing roster moves, as they have officially placed both
John Hayden and
Cale Fleury on waivers, with the 26-year old potentially set to see some interest over the next 24 hours.
The 26-year old was a third-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens back in the 2017 NHL Draft, and after being picked up by Seattle in the expansion draft, the hope was that he could develop into a solid blue liner at the NHL level.
Unfortunately, he's played in just 36 games with the team over the past four years, tallying just one assist and a +1 differential in 14 games played with the Kraken in 2024/25.
As for John Hayden, he's a 30-year old centre that debuted in the NHL way back in 2016, and despite playing for Chicago, New Jersey, Buffalo and Arizona before arriving in Seattle, he's simply not been able to make his mark at the top level yet.
In 19 games with the Kraken this year, Hayden has tallied just 1 goal and 2 points, and given that he's never made an impact in the NHL, it's highly unlikely that he'll draw any interest on waivers.
For now though, the Kraken are a team that have plenty of moves to make if they want to be a legit force in the Western Conference moving forward, and as for these two, they were simply never going to be able to help them moving forward, so these are moves that make sense for the Kraken.
