Evander Kane's newest response to Kurtis Gabriel's blistering comments hints there could be more names coming, and the timing could not be worse.
Evander Kane didn't wait long to respond after Kurtis Gabriel's comments started spreading, and his answer just added a new layer to an already messy story.
Gabriel, who spent one season with the Sharks alongside Kane in 2020-21, went on the San Jose Hockey Now podcast and painted an ugly picture of the locker room.
New details were revealed where he described Kane's constant lateness to meetings, a tracksuit in a suit and tie room, and teammates who eventually stopped wanting Kane around.
Kane fired back Monday with a post that avoided naming Gabriel directly but read like a warning shot.
Kane's response hints at more than one target
What stands out now is the second half of that post.
Kane wrote that there are plenty of bombs out there with plenty of names attached, and that everything will speak for itself when the time is right.
That line reads less like a response to one former teammate and more like a signal Gabriel isn't the only person he's willing to call out.
Kane's full statement is on his X account below.
The timing isn't doing Kane any favors
None of this is happening in a vacuum.
Kane is still an unrestricted free agent heading into camp season, and his market has slipped toward the league minimum.
Stories like this don't help a 35 year old winger trying to convince a general manager he's worth a roster spot.
Gabriel says he gave Kane a heads up on Instagram before the clips went public, and that Kane read the message but never wrote back.
Whether Kane follows through on his promise of receipts remains to be seen, but the feud keeps growing instead of fading, at about the worst possible moment for a player who still needs a job.
