Nick Leddy has been a constant for the Blues over the past four seasons, but now, the team have officially placed the 34-year old veteran on waivers.

The St. Louis Blues took a huge step forward in 2024/25, and with the team looking to become genuine Stanley Cup threats moving forward, this is a crucial off-season for GM Doug Armstrong and the team.
On Wednesday, they made a surprise, but welcome move, as the team officially placed 34-year old veteran Nick Leddy on waivers, with Insider Elliotte Friedman confirming that this is now regular waivers once again after the buyout window has officially closed.
While Leddy has been solid for the Blues, with just 2 goals and 5 points in 31 games played a season ago, many fans believe he's now simply taking up a roster spot that could be used on a younger, more exciting talent.
This is a team with plenty of that talent too, and after a surprise run to the Stanley Cup Playoffs a season ago, they'll be looking to find more young talent to take them that next step moving forward, with the team acquiring Logan Mailloux in a recent trade with Montreal to fill a hole on the blue line.
As for Leddy, it's been quite some time since he's been a productive defenseman in the NHL, and even with 1,042 regular season games under his belt, he's just not a hugely valuable piece for them anymore.
If he can clear through waivers, this will give the organization plenty of depth however, as he could serve as a depth piece in the AHL and fill a role at the top level if injuries require it, but as of right now, this move likely signals that his time as a full-time NHLer in St. Louis is coming to a close.
