Jordan Binnington hasn't been at his best this season, and after being pulled early, he's shared his unfiltered reaction to Jim Montgomery's decision.
The St. Louis Blues start to the 2025/26 season has been a disaster, with the team going 9-11-7 through their first 27 games, a disappointing start after their miraculous run to the Stanley Cup Playoffs a season ago.
That's led to increased speculation around the veterans on this team and potentially being traded, including goaltender Jordan Binnington, who has been
linked to the Edmonton Oilers in recent times.
Binnington reacts to early pull against the Ducks
However, Binnington hasn't been at his best either, and that was on display in the recent matchup with the Anaheim Ducks, as he was pulled after facing just 5 shots, allowing two goals in the eventual 4-1 defeat.
Unsurprisingly, the former Stanley Cup winner wasn't too happy, as he had this to say about the pull from Head Coach Jim Montgomery, which many believed was a little early.
It was a quick (pull). Obviously like 10 minutes or so. You prepare for a game and you're going in thinking you're playing 60 minutes and as an athlete and competitor, that's what you want to do. I felt good, so, it's unfortunate.
They got two goals and that's hockey and the game always finds a way to keep you humble. It's all part of it. Whether we won or lost yesterday, I'm coming in and I'm doing the same thing today.
Thankfully for Blues fans, Binnington remains motivated to help this team turn around their slow start to the 2025/26 campaign, and while he was clearly frustrated, he didn't take that out on his coach in his comments.
It was just my instinct. I wasn't happy. That's who I am as a person and I'm sure in the big picture people would respect that. I respect the fire when people want to be out there and want to play.
At the same time, he's the coach and he makes the decisions and I totally respect that, too.
Ultimately, this is a team that's trending in the wrong direction, and that may result in them trading Binnington, but for now he's focused on his team, and after the frustration of his pull, he's ready to get back at it for their next game.
