St. Louis Blues prospect Matthew Mayich remains hospitalized in critical condition five days after collapsing during an outdoor team workout.

His family is asking for continued prayers.
Mayich, 21, went down around 8:30 a.m. on August 20 at Sun Angel Stadium, the schools track and field facility, during a team workout on the first day of the fall semester.
Tempe Fire Medical Rescue responded to a call describing a heat related illness, treated him on site, and transported him to a nearby Phoenix hospital.
Temperatures in the area were pushing past 110 degrees that week, and Arizona State has since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the outdoor session.
According to the Arizona Republic, Mayich suffered what is being described as a possible cardiac event and has remained in a coma since the incident after today's update.

Support pours in from the hockey community

A virtual prayer service organized by the Canadian Croatian Chamber of Commerce drew so much attention on August 25 that the room reached capacity, with supporters joining from Mayichs home province of Ontario and beyond.
Mayich was a sixth round pick by the Blues in the 2023 NHL Draft.
Before landing at Arizona State this offseason, he spent time at Clarkson University and played four seasons of Major Junior hockey with Ottawa of the OHL.

Arizona State reviewing what led to the collapse

The university says it is looking into the workout conditions that day, and officials have pledged their support to the player, his family, and the rest of the ASU athletic department during what they called a very difficult time.
We will be sure to pass on any new information we receive to you in the future.
