Blues prospect Matthew Mayich remains hospitalized in critical condition after a possible cardiac event, per a new statement from Doug Armstrong.

The St. Louis Blues organization is speaking out on behalf of one of their own.
President of Hockey Operations Doug Armstrong released a statement Wednesday addressing the condition of prospect Matthew Mayich, who has been hospitalized since collapsing during an outdoor team workout at Arizona State last Thursday.
The 21 year old defenseman went down during a morning session at Sun Angel Stadium amid an extreme heat warning in the Phoenix area, and what was first described as a heat related illness has since been reported as a possible cardiac event.

Blues offer support through agent updates

Armstrong's statement made clear the organization has been staying close to the situation through Mayich's agent.
"The entire Blues organization is keeping Matthew Mayich close to our hearts as we pray for his comfort and recovery while he continues to undergo medical treatment in Arizona. His agent has kept us informed about Matthew's medical status over the last week and we extend our deepest support to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."

The message from the Blues extended support not just to Mayich but to his family, friends and Arizona State teammates as they navigate what has become an incredibly difficult week.
Mayich, a sixth round pick by St. Louis in 2023, was set to begin his first season with the Sun Devils after transferring from Clarkson University, where he'd just wrapped a strong freshman campaign on the blue line.

Support pours in from across the hockey community

A virtual prayer service was held earlier this week for Mayich, drawing support from his home province of Ontario and well beyond it.
The Ottawa native spent four seasons in the OHL with the 67's before making the jump to college hockey.
Arizona State has confirmed it's investigating the circumstances surrounding the workout that led to his collapse.
For now, hockey people everywhere are simply hoping for a turn toward recovery for a young player who hadn't even suited up for his new team yet.
