Surprise Eastern Conference team linked to veteran winger Vladimir Tarasenko
Vladimir Tarasenko hits free agency off the back of his second Stanley Cup victory, and now, the veteran has some intriguing teams chasing him.
Free agency has gotten off to a hot start in 2024, and with most of the big names off the board, teams will now pivot to their second or third options, with plenty of quality talent still available. One of those names is Vladimir Tarasenko, who remains one of the premier goal scorers in the NHL, and now, an intriguing new team has become the favourite to land the veteran winger.
Vladimir Tarasenko hits free agency off the back of his second Stanley Cup victory, and now, the veteran has some intriguing teams chasing him.
«The Penguins are reportedly one of the clubs to make the UFA an offer, as Tarasenko should be prepared to accept a pay cut from the $5 million Ottawa Senators gave him last summer on July 27.»
That report comes from Sportsnet's Luke Fox, and after losing Reilly Smith via trade and Jake Guentzel via trade back at the 2024 trade deadline, the team are in need of some top notch wingers. The team have already added Anthony Beauvillier and Blake Lizzotte in free agency, but with Drew O'Connor and Bryan Rust currently pencilled in as the wingers alongside Sidney Crosby, something needs to change.
With few future assets remaining, the Penguins would be better to avoid a blockbuster trade, and if they can instead land Tarasenko, that would be a major boost for their playoff hopes in 2024/25.
