The Trade deadline is a week from today. As such, trade chatter is starting to pick up tremendously as each team looks to solidify their status as buyers or sellers. One team that could go either way is the Pittsburgh Penguins. Several of their players have been in rumors this season.

Smith Shuts Down Rumors About Not Fitting In With Penguins

One of those players is Reilly Smith, whom the Penguins acquired via trade in the offseason. Smith has been just okay for the team this year as he has 10 goals and 25 points through 51 games. Given where the team is in the standings, he very well could be one player that gets moved by the March 8th deadline. Today, he addressed what it is like this time of year for players who could be moved.

«I think you're aware of it. It's kind of a weird time of year. But you just focus on what you can control, and a lot of that you can't control. So there's no point stressing about those things.»

The 32-year-old also addressed specific rumors about his fit in Pittsburgh. Reportedly, he has not been happy since being traded as he never wanted to leave Vegas. For what it is worth though, he has denied these rumors according to Penguins Hockey Now reporter. Dan Kingerski

The unhappiness with Pittsburgh or the desire to go back to Vegas, where he was quite popular and raised substantial sums for charity, is something he can control. And he firmly said, not true.

Florida Panthers Hoping For Reunion With Smith

Recently, more traditional rumors about the player have emerged. Disregarding the rumors about his fit in Pittsburgh, he is still a player that the team seems to be interested in moving. One team that could be interested in him is the Florida Panthers according to Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek. Smith spent two years of his career with the Panthers, playing in 162 games for the franchise.

Friedman and Marek on TJMS agree that Reilly Smith back in Florida would be a good fit.

Smith had 40 goals and 87 points in his tenure in Florida. Over the course of 210 goals and 498 points in 815 games played.
