No contract extension for Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins
Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins have yet to agree to a contract extension, possibly paving the way for a trade.
Crosby doesn't seem to be too concerned about money at this stage in his career, but rather, the direction that the team is planning to take. Crosby's years are numbered in the NHL, and he wants to win a Stanley Cup sooner, rather than later.
Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins and Sidney Crosby have been talking to each other for two months about a contract extension and issues are being talked about. GM Kyle Dubas said the negotiations will remain private.
Crosby has stated that he has been talking with the Penguins, but didn't provide much optimism on the situation when he was quoted saying "I'll leave it at that". The Penguins' current lineup doesn't lead many to believe that they will make the playoffs next season, and at this stage of Crosby's career, that simply isn't good enough for him to have the desire to remain in Pittsburgh.
«We're not looking to simply squeak into the playoffs. It's to return the team to becoming a contender as soon as possible. Can we do that this season? Can we do that next season,» Dubas said Tuesday. «It's hard to put a timeframe on it, but this is obviously not as strip-it-down to the studs situation here. The people in the room are too good for that.»
