Unexpected turnaround for Matvei Michkov and the Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers drafted Matvei Michkov 7th overall at last year's draft. There was some concern that he might not come to the NHL given his contract situation in the KHL, but today those concerns were largely squashed.
A new report came out about the prospect as SKA chairman Alexander Medvedev made a public statement about the 19-year-old's future. It sounds like the team may be willing to let him go to North America as early as next season, despite the fact that he remains under contract with SKA for the next two seasons.
Well, pretty notable news.
SKA Chairman Medvedev:
Flyers want Michkov in #NHL
SKA have good relations with #Flyers FO, wont violate his #KHL contract, will talk
Wont "rule out" letting Michkov go to @NHLFlyers
Decision will be no later than end of June
The news was also reported by Flyers journalist Dylan Robillard, who added more details to the conversation. He revealed that the decision could come as early as June, giving the Flyers and their fans plenty of heads up about his intentions for next season.
REPORT: Matvei Michkov Could Be In The NHL Sonner Than Expected:
SKA has a strong relationship with the Flyers FO. Michkov coming over this summer could be in the cards with a decision to be made in June.

Following the news, popular hockey Youtuber and media personality Nathan Murdoch, aka "Grav," posted an intriguing question about Michkov. He jokingly asked who is going to play in the NHL first between Michkov and Montreal Canadiens prospect David Reinbacher.
Who plays in the NHL first, Matvei Michkov or David Reinbacher? 🤪
Michkov joining the Flyers next season would be a huge boost to the team. His presence alone could be enough to get the team across the finish line and into the playoffs. We will just have to wait for the official announcement to come this summer.
