The New York Rangers Receive Unfortunate News Regarding Mika Zibanejad

The New York Rangers, mired in a slump, had all eyes on them. With the trading away of captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, many fans wanted to see how that might snap them out of the funk.

But on this Monday night, the Blueshirts dropped another decision, falling to the Chicago Blackhawks for their eighth loss in the last ten games.

With Jacob Trouba gone, that attention has shifted to star forward Mika Zibanejad, who is under increasing pressure. Unfortunately for Mika Zibanejad, the scrutiny appears to be getting the best of him.

Team insider Larry Brooks of the 'New York Post', on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, called Zibanejad "very sensitive" and too worried about what others, the public, and media specifically, think of him.

That trait allegedly carries over into his confidence level and play. Zibanejad has surfaced in trade rumors of late. His cap hit is $8.5 million per year to 2030, with a full no-movement clause. It's said they will move him if the deal is right.

With what he's seen regarding Trouba, maybe Zibanejad is thinking that he's next. For now, though, it's time to focus on the ice.

With no captain to lead them, an opportunity is there for Zibanejad to take the reins and lead the Rangers back on track.

In 27 games this season, he has just five goals and 20 points, but the Rangers need more from their star. It might take some tough love to motivate him.

Presently, the Rangers sit at 14-12-1 with 29 points, just a single point out of the second wildcard position in the Eastern Conference.
