The New York Rangers have been trying for a few weeks to trade captain Jacob Trouba, and reports are indicating that trade talks have heated up recently.

NHL News has reported that 4 teams appear to be the front runners to trade for Trouba, who has been adamant about not wanting to leave New York due to his wife and child. The 4 clubs appear to be the Buffalo Sabres, Nashville Predators, Anaheim ducks, and his hometown Detroit Red Wings.

«Indeed, a well-placed source has told The Post that #NYR GM Chris Drury is working on a deal to send the captain (Trouba) to #LGRW, a trade that the Michigan native would presumably accept after having played as a freshman for the Wolverines in 2012-13.»

Trouba is still owed $8 million a year over the final 2 years of his contract, but teams may be willing to take that salary on for a captain of a team that provides tremendous leadership. Trouba also put up 22 points in the 69 games he played last year. Mark Messier has nothing but praise for the Rangers captain and believes he helped carry the team last year.

"Jacob Trouba is a hard nosed hockey player and he's a throwback..

He's an incredible leader and the Rangers don't have the season they've had without him as captain" ~ Mark Messier #PMSLive

Trouba is a real hard, in your face type of guy. Any team that is able to acquire him would definitely take a step forward next season, and it appears that a trade is getting closer with each passing day.
