Alexis Lafreniere hasn't lived up to the hype of a No. 1 overall pick in New York, and now it appears the team may be ready to move on from him.
The New York Rangers have taken a nosedive in recent years, and with the team once again struggling in 2025/26, it's unclear how this team is going to proceed moving forward.
Things have gotten so bad in fact that General Manager Chris Drury recently penned a letter to fans apologizing for the way things have gone, promising to make necessary changes to get this team back to where they were just a few short years ago.
Alexis Lafreniere on the move?
Following the release of that letter, it has been revealed that Drury met with the senior members of this team to chat about their futures, with one more very interesting note coming out of that report.
That note was that Drury did not meet with former No. 1 overall pick Alexis Lafreniere, and given recent speculation over his future, that only adds fuel to the fire of the reports that he could be on his way out of the Big Apple.
In his career thus far, the former No. 1 overall pick has been a major let down, and with just 10 goals and 28 points in 51 games played this season, perhaps a change of scenery would be best for the Quebec native.
Through 431 games with the Rangers, Lafreniere has tallied 102 goals and 221 points, so while he hasn't been a bad player, he's not the star that a team hopes to get with the No. 1 overall pick, and with all of the drama surrounding the Rangers, it could be just a matter of time until he's dealt by the organization.
