Dennis Cholowski hasn't made much of an impact for the New Jersey Devils, and now, the 27-year-old blueliner has been placed on waivers.
Back in the 2016 NHL Draft, the Detroit Red Wings used their No. 20 overall draft pick on defenseman Dennis Cholowski, and at the time, it looked to be a fairly solid pick for the team.
During his time in the NHL, the 27-year-old has played for Detroit, Seattle, New York, Washington, and currently the New Jersey Devils, racking up 13 goals and 41 points across 171 games in that span.
27-year-old officially placed on waivers
This season, due to the Devils' injuries, Cholowski has gotten the opportunity to appear in 15 games, but in that time, he has tallied just 1 assist to go along with his -5 goal differential.
As a result, the team is looking to shake things up, and on Friday, it was officially announced that he will be placed on waivers by the team as they look to get out of their recent rut.
After spending plenty of his early career in the AHL, this was another opportunity for Cholowski to solidify himself as an NHLer in New Jersey, but given his struggles, it's tough to see him being picked up on waivers by another team in the next 24 hours.
As a result, it's likely that he'll head back to the AHL with the Utica Comets, but given that he's appeared in 171 games across his career, a contending team could surprisingly pick him up if they want to add to the depth of their blue line moving forward.
