Devils captain Nico Hischier sends a harsh message to fans after Luke Hughes boo-storm

The New Jersey Devils have been very solid thus far in 2025/26, and with a record of 22-18-2 with the Olympic break approaching, they're right in the thick of the Stanley Cup Playoffs race in the Eastern Conference.

Unfortunately, they didn't put forth their best performance on Sunday night as they came up short 3-1 against the Carolina Hurricanes, with blue liner Luke Hughes having not one, but two major blunders as he was booed relentlessly by Devils fans as a result.

While many on social media believed it was justified, given that he put two pucks in the back of his own teams net, his captain Nico Hischier was not having it, as he called out fans for not supporting their young defenseman.

Sure, Hischier also understands why there would be plenty of frustration from fans, and with Hughes posting just 4 goals in 42 games played this season, he's not quite taken the leap that many of them had hoped he would.

Ultimately, it was a night that no one in the NHL wants to have for Hughes against the 'Canes, and the booing from the fans was only fuel to the fire, so Hischier, Hughes and the fans will all be hoping for a major bounce back from the young blue liner as he looks to fulfill his immense potential.
