Pierre LeBrun believes Jonathan Marchessault would waive NMC for one Canadian team
Jonathan Marchessault signed a big deal in Nashville last summer, but now, it appears he may be prepared to waive his NMC to land with the Maple Leafs.
The Nashville Predators were full of hope and expectation when they went on a free-for-all in free agency a summer ago, but unfortunately, things have not gone well for them since that point.
Not only did they miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs a year ago, but they currently sit 28th in the overall NHL standings, and as a result, there's been plenty of speculation over the team ahead of the trade deadline, with many veterans that could draw immense interest.
Marchessault reportedly willing to head to Canada
However, top free agent signing Jonathan Marchessault has a full no-movement clause, with some reporting that would hold him back from being dealt this season if their struggles continue.
Now however, Pierre LeBrun has reported the complete opposite, revealing that Marchessault could be open to waiving his NMC to accept a trade to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It's unclear just how interested Toronto are in the 34-year old, but given his relatively solid production in recent times (7 goals in 28 games this season) before his struggles in 2025/26, it's a move that could make plenty of sense.
With the extra time ahead of the trade deadline given the Olympic break this season, there's time for Nashville to make up their minds on how they want to approach the future given their overall struggles, but if they want to move him and Marchessault is open to it, the Maple Leafs appear to be a prime destination.
