Top NHL Insider Makes Concerning Report on Lane Hutson and the Montreal Canadiens
NHL analyst Frank Seravalli's latest report could cause worry among fans of the Montreal Canadiens after the Calder Trophy-winning year for young defenseman Lane Hutson.
Rookie defenseman Lane Hutson burst onto the scene with the Montreal Canadiens and eventually became the 1st Habs rookie since Ken Dryden to be named Rookie of the Year.
He had 66 points (6G, 60A) in his 1st full year in the NHL and has all the makings of being a star for years to come.
Frank Seravalli: The Canadiens are more than willing to step up and write a cheque for Lane Hutson to be a Canadien for a long long time; I just don't know what the Hutson appetite is on that end - Bleacher Report (8/22)
Hutston is going into the last year of his current contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $950,000. He can become an RFA on July 1 next summer.
Lane Hutson won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie
Hutson made Canadiens history by winning the Calder Trophy, becoming the 1st Habs player to do so since Hall of Fame goaltender Ken Dryden did so in the 1970s.
It's a huge honor. And you know, I'm happy about it. But I just enjoy playing hockey and playing for the Canadiens, so I guess it's just a plus.
Considering the career and multiple Stanley Cups that Dryden won during his time in Montreal, Habs fans are right to hope that Hutson can enjoy the same kind of success in his career.
